Our Story

Hello :) I am Danielle, the 2 Legged Momma of this menagerie of 4 Legged Angels.

Growing up, we always had pets in our house and on our property. We had shetland ponies, horses, geese, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, multiple dogs and cats of all types and breeds. There was no such thing as a "stray" around our house, not a 4 Legged or a 2 Legged for that matter LOL, even if they didn't "live" at our house - only visited, everyone 4 or 2 legged, was welcome in our home and we all took responsibility for the care of each and every one. I have mucked stalls, reshoed more than one hoof, gathered eggs, helped birth puppies, foals, colts and watched as a guinea pig gave birth to what I was sure (at the age of 5) was two hundred babies! LOL.

One of my first pets at the age of 4 was a wonderful little shetland pony who, once I was on him, would wander -without fail- over to stand under this big old tree on our property and promptly fall asleep. There he would stand in the shade of this tree, no moving a muscle snoozing and eventually after I grew tired of urging "Giddyup pony giddyup! gogogo giddyup!" little plump 5 yr old legs swinging mightly, however ineffectually as the pony was going... nowhere! So tired from my efforts I would doze off too and Mom has several pictures of us just snoozing away. *Grin*

Mom and Dad too, before he passed away, had this amazing ability with animals and people. They never met a stranger; 2 or 4 Legged, it did not matter and they had one thing whih they never let us forget when it came to our responsibilities to our extended family. "You always think of those who love and depend on you, before you think of yourself, no matter what. It doesn't matter if you're tired, had a long day or don't feel good, think of them first and make sure they are taken care of - before you take care of yourself. "

This lesson of "Think of others before yourself" is one I have never forgotten and one that I am thankful each and everyday, that was forged into the fabric of the child I was growing up and solidified the foundation for the woman I am today. It gave me a deep sense of how things are supposed to work in the world we inhabit and how we're supposed to treat all living things we take under our wings, befriend or take responsibility for.

Always act for the betterment of others before ones' self.

Growing up in an big family who believed and acted with responsibilty like this, prepared me for this menagerie of rescued little angels quite well I think and what a menagerie it is. Living on my own, I started out with 2 dogs, my guardian angels; my rescued pomeranian and my black lab and then my best friend found my next little angel, a shepard/rottie/chow mix and brought her home. This was the extent of my little menagerie, until....... well.... it grew!  LOL

As the fates would have it, we moved in august of 2009 out to the country and the place we moved to, had 1 Momma kitty with 3 little kittens that had been saved from a dog attack. One kitten had severely injured front legs, one had a large lump on his side and one female completely untouched little furbaby kitten who looked like a little black furry buddha, hence her name. I fell in love immediately, despite allergies that had driven me nuts for years, which Drs told me were allergies to cat saliva, we talked about it and decided to keep these little angels, adding them to our little family... Little did we know, how fast that "little" family would grow into a big family!
